The Jesuit Order
The Society of Jesus (Jesuits)
The complete Oath of Extreme Induction
Library of Congress, Washington D.C., Library of Congress Catalog Card #66-43354, made public in 1883. This oath is still in effect, and is still
used today.

The Jesuit order, otherwise known as the Society of Jesus (S.J.), has been the military enforcement arm of the Catholic Church since it was first founded by Ignatius of Loyola of Spain in 1534 during the reign of Pope Paul III, ostensibly to combat Protestant heresy. And while many feel that the Jesuits are only a sub-order of the Roman Catholic Church and are merely seekers and disseminators of knowledge, they have a much darker history that many people do not know about.
And while much can be said of the Jesuit Order, and much has been written, the oath speaks not only for itself, but speaks much of the Roman Catholic Church that has used and still uses the Jesuits for it's purposes while knowing full well the contents of the oath they bind themselves under. The Roman Catholic Church, while professing to holiness and claiming that there is no salvation outside of the Church, still harbors the Jesuit Order and commands them explicitly.
Below is the complete Oath of Extreme Induction taken by each Jesuit Priest upon his induction into the command ranks of the Jesuit Order, found in the Library of Congress, Washington D.C., Library of Congress Catalog Card # 66-43354, made public in 1883. This oath is still in effect, and is still used today.
On an interesting note, we often see the letters INRI on crosses and crucifixes, and are told that it represents the Latin words "Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudeum" or "Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews", the Latin words that Pilate had written on a placard and nailed above Jesus' head at the crucifixion. However, as you will see below, the Jesuits use a far different set of words with the same letters. This invites the question, "Which is the real meaning of the 'I.N.R.I.' that we see displayed today?"

When a Jesuit novice is about to be inducted into the higher levels of the Order, he kneels on a red cross before the Superior of the Order. Before him are two flags, the familiar yellow and white flag of the papacy, and the black flag with a dagger and red cross above a skull and crossbones, the flag of the Jesuit Order. On the Jesuit flag is written the words, IUSTUM, NECAR, REGES, IMPIOS. (It is just to exterminate or annihilate impious or heretical kings, governments, or rulers.) The Superior of the Order hands the novice a small black crucifix which he presses to his heart, and the Superior then presents to the novice a dagger. The novice grasps the bare blade and presses the point to his heart. The Superior, still holding the hilt of the dagger then speaks to the novice.
My son, heretofore you have been taught to act the dissembler: among Roman Catholics to be a Roman Catholic, and to spy even among your own brethren; to believe no man, to trust no man. Among the Reformers, to be a Reformer; among the Huguenots, to be a Huguenot; among the Calvinists, to be a Calvinist; among the Protestants, generally to be a Protestant; and obtaining their confidence to seek even to preach from their pulpits and to denounce with all the vehemence in your nature our Holy Religion and the Pope; and to descend so low as to become a Jew among the Jews, that you might be enabled to gather together all information for your Order as a faithful soldier of the Pope.
You have been taught to insidiously plant the seeds of jealousy and hatred between communities, provinces and states that were at peace, and incite them to deeds of blood, involving them in war with each other, and to create revolutions and civil wars in countries that were independent and prosperous, cultivating the arts and sciences and enjoying the blessings of peace. To take sides with the combatants and to act secretly in concert with your brother Jesuit, who may be engaged on the other side, but openly opposed to that with which you might be connected; only that the Church might be the gainer in the end, in the conditions fixed in the treaties for peace and that the end justifies the means.
You have been taught your duty as a spy, to gather all statistics, facts and information in your power from every source; to ingratiate yourself into the confidence of the family circle of Protestants and heretics of every class and character, as well as that of the merchant, the banker, the lawyer, among the schools and universities, in parliaments and legislatures, and in the judiciaries councils of state, and to "be all things to all men," for the Pope's sake, whose servants we are unto death.
You have received all your instructions heretofore as a novice, a neophyte, and have served as a coadjutor, confessor and priest, but you have not been invested with all that is necessary to command in the Army of Loyola in the service of the Pope. You must serve the proper time as the instrument and executioner as directed by your superiors; for none can command here who has not consecrated his labors with the blood of the heretic; for "without the shedding of blood no man can be saved." Therefore, to fit yourself for your work, and make your own salvation sure, you will, in addition to your former oath of obedience to your Order and your allegiance to the Pope, repeat after me.
I, M---------- N----------, Now, in the presence of Almighty God, the Blessed Virgin Mary, the blessed Michael the Archangel, the blessed St. John the Baptist, the holy Apostles St. Peter and St. Paul and all the saints and the sacred hosts of heaven, and to you, my ghostly father, the Superior general of the Society of Jesus, founded by St. Ignatius of Loyola, in the Pontificate of Paul the Third, and continued to the present, do by the womb of the Virgin, the matrix of God, and the rod of Jesus Christ, declare and swear, that his holiness the Pope is Christ's Viceregent and is the true and only Head of the Catholic or Universal Church throughout the earth; and that by virtue of the keys of binding and loosing, given to his Holiness by my Saviour, Jesus Christ, he hath power to depose heretical kings, princes, states, commonwealths and governments, all being illegal without his sacred confirmation and that they may safely be destroyed.
Therefore, to the utmost of my power, I shall and will defend this doctrine and his Holiness' right and custom against all usurpers of the heretical or Protestant authority, and all adherents in the regard that they be usurped and heretical, opposing the sacred Mother Church of Rome.
I do now renounce and disown any allegiance as due to any heretical king, prince or state named Protestants or Liberals or obedience to any of their laws, magistrates or officers. I do further declare that the doctrines of the churches of England and Scotland, of the Calvinists, Huguenots and others of the name Protestants or Liberals to be damnable, and they themselves damned and to be damned who will not forsake the same.
I do further declare that I will help, assist and advise all or any of his
Holiness' agents in any place wherever I shall be,  in any other kingdom or territory I shall come to, and do my uttermost to extirpate the heretical Protestants or Liberals' doctrines and to destroy all their
pretended powers, regal or otherwise.
I do further promise and declare, that notwithstanding I am dispensed with, to assume any religion heretical, for the propagating of the Mother Church's interest, to keep secret and private all her agents counsels' from time to time, as they may entrust me, and not to divulge, directly or indirectly, by word, writing or circumstance whatever; but to execute all that shall be proposed, given in charge or discovered unto me, by you, my ghostly father, or any of this sacred convent.
I do further promise and declare, that I will have no opinion or will of my own, or any mental reservation whatever, even as a corpse or cadaver, (perinde ac cadaver,) but will unhesitatingly obey each and every command that I may receive from my superiors in the Militia of the Pope and Jesus Christ. That I will go to any part of the world whithersoever I may be sent, without murmuring or repining, and
will be submissive in all things commanded to me.
I furthermore promise and declare that I will, when opportunity presents, make and wage relentless war, secretly or openly, against all heretics, Protestants and Liberals, as I am directed to do, to extirpate and exterminate them from the face of the whole earth; and that I will spare neither age, nor sex or condition; and that I will hang, burn, waste, spoil, flay, strangle, and bury alive these infamous heretics, rip up the stomachs and wombs of their women and crush their infants' heads against the walls, in order to annihilate forever their execrable race.
That when the same cannot be done openly, I will secretly use the poisoned cup, the strangulating cord, the steel of the poinard or the leaden bullet, regardless of the honor, rank, dignity, or authority of the person or persons, whatever may be their condition in life, either public or private, as I at any time may be directed to do so by any agent of the Pope or Superior of the Brotherhood of the Holy Faith, of the Society of Jesus.
In confirmation of which, I hereby dedicate my life, soul, and all of my
coporeal powers, and with this dagger which I now receive, I will subscribe my name written in my own blood, in testimony thereof; and should I prove false or weaken in my determination, may my brethren and fellow soldiers of the Militia of the Pope cut off my hands and feet, and my throat from ear to ear, my belly opened and sulphur burned therein, with all the punishment that can be inflicted upon me on earth, and my soul to be tortured by demons in an eternal hell forever.
All of which I, M------ N------, do swear by the blessed Trinity and blessed Sacrament, which I am about to receive, to perform and on my part to receive inviolably; and do call all of the heavenly and glorious host of heaven to witness these my real intentions to keep this my oath.
In testimony hereof I take this most holy and blessed sacrament of the
Eucharist, and witness the same further, with my name written with the point of this dagger dipped in my own blood and sealed in the face of this holy convent.

You will now rise to your feet and I will instruct you in the Catechism
necessary to make yourself known to any member of the Society of Jesus belonging to this rank.
In the first place, you, as a Brother Jesuit, will with another make the
ordinary sign of the cross as any Roman Catholic would; then one crosses his wrists, the palms of his hands open, the other crosses his feet, one above the other; the first points with forefinger of the right hand to the center of the palm of the left, the other with the forefinger of the left hand points to the center of the palm of the right; the first then with his right hand makes a circle around his head, touching it; the other then with the forefinger of his left hand touches the left side of his body just below his heart; then the first with his right hand draws it across the throat of the other, and the latter then with his right hand makes the motion of cutting with a dagger down the stomach and abdomen of the first.
The first then says Iustum; the other answers Necar; the first then says Reges. The other answers Impios. The first will then present a small piece of paper folded in a peculiar manner, four times, which the other will cut longitudinally and on opening the name JESU will be found written upon the head and arms of a cross three times. You will then give and receive with him the following questions and answers.

From where do you come?
From the bends of the Jordan, from Calvary, from the Holy Sepulchre, and lastly from Rome.

Whom do you serve?
The Holy Father at Rome, the Pope, and the Roman Catholic Church Universal throughout the world.

Who commands you?
The successor of St. Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Society of Jesus or the Soldiers of Jesus Christ.

Who received you?
A venerable man with white hair.

With a naked dagger, I kneeling on a cross beneath the banners of the Pope and of our sacred Order.

Did you take an oath?
I did, to destroy heretics and their governments and rulers, and to spare neither age, sex or condition. To be as a corpse without any opinion or will of my own, but to implicitly obey my superiors in all things without hesitation or murmuring.

Will you do that?
I will.

How do you travel?
In the bark of Peter the fisherman.

Whither do you travel?
To the four quarters of the globe.

For what purpose?
To obey the orders of my General and Superiors and execute the will of the Pope and faithfully fulfill the conditions of my oath.
Go ye, then, into all the world and take possession of all lands in the name of the Pope. He who will not accept him as the Vicar of Jesus and his Viceregent on earth, let him be accursed and exterminated.

The Jesuits
Their Origin, Objectives, and Methods
Ignatius Loyola, the founder of the Jesuits, was born about the year 1491 in northern Spain. Love of military discipline, combat and competition brought him several victories until the battle between the Spanish and the French at Pampeluna in 1521, at which time he received a permanent knee injury. While recovering, he studied books of legends about the saints of the church, and he vowed to even greater achievements than they for the remainder of his life. Gradually he developed what he called "the Spiritual Exercises" for absorbing other minds into his feverish zeal to excel in service to the pope.
In 1528, at the age of 37, he went to the University of Paris, and the disciples that he made there he used as the nucleus for his new organization, which he named "the Society of Jesus," but which under its more familiar name, "the Jesuits," was soon to bring fear--and death--to millions.
Newman, the historian, describes its beginnings at the University of Paris:
"But however much he became absorbed in the drudgery of acquiring an education he never for a moment lost sight of his great purpose. Wherever he could find anyone disposed to subject himself to a course of training in the 'Spiritual Exercises' he rarely failed to master his will and to fill him with his own enthusiasm... On August 15, 1534 (the anniversary of the assumption [ascension to heaven] of the Virgin Mary), in the St. Mary's Church at Montmartre, they unitedly took upon themselves the most solemn go without questioning wherever the pope might send them." --A.H. Newman, Manual of Church History, volume 2, pages 366-367.
A Unique Approach
"In common with other monastic orders, the Jesuits are bound by vows... To these is added a vow 'to go without questioning or hesitation wherever the pope may command...' The fundamental idea of the Society is that of securing absolute domination over the spirits of men and of centralizing all power in one earthly head representing God on earth. Jesuitism is thus the most perfect embodiment of the papal idea. The society combines high enthusiasm with careful selection and thorough training of the individual members, and with perfect organization. In such a combination, whether the principles involved be right or wrong, there is almost irresistible power." --Newman, page 568.
"How striking--how appalling even, is the contrast that presents itself when Loyola's doctrine of corpse-like obedience is compared with the tone, the style, and the intention of God's dealing with men, as displayed in the Scriptures, from first to last! While contemplating this contrast, one is compelled to say these two styles must issue from different, or rather from antagonistic sources." --Loyola and Jesuitism in its Rudiments, Isaac Taylor, page 291.
"Every Jesuit is encouraged--he is bound--to report to his Superior whatever he may know, and whatever he may suspect, relative to the conduct, to the private habits, or to the secret dispositions of every other. Every Jesuit is a spy upon every other Jesuit; a net-work of perfidy embraces the entire community, and from its meshes not even those highest in authority stand for a moment clear." --Taylor, pages 340-341.
How the Training Begins
"When an individual had come so far under the influence of members of the society [the Society of Jesus, or the Jesuits] as to be willing to submit himself to a four weeks' course, he was isolated, and under the direction of an adept taken systematically through these wonderful exercises, the aim of which was to induce a state of complete subjection of the will and a habit of vivid contemplation and imaginative realization... We can hardly conceive of anything calculated for securing a complete mastery over a susceptible youth. The twenty-eight general divisions into daily tasks are each subdivided into five hourly meditations. Each of these begins with a preparatory prayer followed by two preludes... These 'Spiritual Exercises' have from the beginning been one of the most valuable instruments of the society in the accomplishment of its purposes.
"In case the 'Spiritual Exercises' have produced the desired effect...he is invited to become a Novice. He is now carefully excluded from all communication with his relatives and former friends. Every earthly tie is broken. He is to have no will of his own as to his future course, but is to put himself into the hands of the director as the interpreter of heaven toward him. He is to be as a corpse or as a staff. Absolute obedience is the thing most insisted upon. His conscience must not assert itself in opposition to the will of his superiors. Absolute destruction of individual will and conscience is aimed at and to a great extent accomplished. The director studies with the greatest care the condition of the Novice from day to day. He is allowed to read nothing but a little devotional matter. He may not converse with other Novices. His obedience is fully tested by the requirements of the most disagreeable and arduous services. The novitiate usually lasts about two years, and if the Novice is found to possess great energy and tact, and absolute obedience, he is accepted as a Scholar...
"He now undergoes a protracted course of training in the various branches of secular and theological learning... The Scholars were a body of picked men, thoroughly obedient to their superiors and devoted to their work. The utmost attention was paid to wholesome nourishment and physical culture; for the leaders realized from the beginning that to accomplish their purposes a sound and hardy physique was just as important as a well-trained and well-stored mind. If at the end of the course of study the Scholar was regarded as highly promising, he was made a Coadjutor." --Newman, page 371.
The Work of the Coadjutors
Coadjutors were to be their top-flight agents, and as such would be selected for the most difficult assignments: (1) As Priests to the royalty, leaders, and wealthy of the nations. (2) As Teachers in schools and especially in the universities of the land. These would either be Catholic schools, government schools, or as secret agents in Protestant schools. (3) As Secret Agents working directly within governments, Protestant church organizations, or pagan religious organizations such as Hinduism. Their role would be that of minister, teacher or a highly trained professional, such as an accountant, lawyer, etc.
"The unscrupulous manner in which through the confessional and every method known to the expert detective they became possessed of state secrets and utilized them for their purposes is well known to students of political as well as to those of church history." --Newman, page 375.
"It is probable that more time was employed in molding their religious and moral characters into complete harmony with the ideals of the Society than in securing a mastery of the studies of the course." --Newman, page 374. The instilling of Catholic doctrine and the preparing of the mind for the deeper things of the Society was the primary objective.
The Jesuit training that the Coadjutor had received in submission of mind to mind, subtly revealed itself in the way he now worked with the minds entrusted to his care in the classroom:
"Originality and independence of mind, love of truth for its own sake, the power of reflecting, and of forming correct judgments, were not merely neglected,--they were suppressed in the Jesuit's system." --Essays on Educational Reformers, R.H. Quick, page 23, 1886 edition.
What he actually was doing was carefully conditioning them for the time when he would privately start some of them on the "Spiritual Exercises."
The Coadjutors as Priests
As priests, the Coadjutors would seek to reach and mold the youth, the wealthy, and the leaders--these three. This work on the hearts of men they began during confession: "From the beginning they utilized the confessional to the utmost as a means of mastering the souls of men and women and gaining a knowledge of religious and political affairs... The sons and daughters of the rich and the noble, they sought by every means to bring under their influence, and they were soon the favorite confessors in the imperial court and in many of the royal courts of Europe. It was their constant aim to make their confessional system so attractive to the rich and the noble that they would seek it of their own accord. To this end their casuistical system of moral [immoral] theology was elaborated, whereby they were able to appease the consciences of their subjects in all kinds of wrong-doing. It was their policy to indulge their noble charges in all kinds of vice and crime and to instill into their minds an undying hatred of every form of opposition to the Catholic faith.
"Their determination to use political power for their own purposes caused them from the beginning to take the profoundest interest in politics. When they had once molded a ruler to their will and made him the subservient instrument of their policy, they were ever at his side dictating to him the measures to be employed for the eradication of heresy and the complete reformation of his realm according to the Jesuit ideal, and they were ever ready, with full papal authority, to conduct inquisitorial work.
"When Catholic or Protestant rulers opposed their schemes they made use of intrigue in the most unscrupulous manner for securing their overthrow and the installation of a new government more favorable to their aims." --Newman, pages 374-375.
It was for this reason that nation after nation eventually sought to expel the Jesuits from their borders.
We will include on the next tract a list of seventy-eight countries that the Jesuits were expelled from between the years 1555 and 1880. Location and date of each expulsion is provided, showing all too well the effects of this agency on the governments of Europe, Central America, South America, Africa and the Far East. A primary objective was to either implant Catholic teaching--or to change the government by assassination or whatever might be required to do the job. Unfortunately we have no records of churches having expelled Jesuits during this time. The children of the world are often wiser in their generation than the children of light.
The Coadjutors as Teachers
As teachers to the youth, as well as to those of more mature years, the Jesuits then, as today, knew how to concentrate their efforts. Speaking of the youth of Europe that studied under these Jesuit-trained teachers:
"The marked ability of the Jesuit teachers, their unsurpassed knowledge of human nature, their affability of manners, and their remarkable adaptability to the idiosyncrasies and circumstances of each individual, made them practically irresistible when once they came into close relations with susceptible youth." --Newman, page 383.
"Their system was simply a logical carrying out of principles that had for centuries been fully recognized in the Roman Catholic Church and had long before had a terrible fruitage; but many Catholics were shocked by the utter immorality of the Jesuit teaching and conduct. A more diabolical system it would be difficult to conceive." --Newman, page 376.
The Coadjutors as Secret Agents
"The Jesuit missionary or worker in any sphere may adapt his dress, manner of life, and occupation to the exigencies of the occasion. He may disguise himself and figure as a Protestant or a Brahmin, if by so doing he can gain an entrance otherwise difficult for Catholic teaching. The story is familiar of a Jesuit who mastered the Sanskrit language and the Vedas, assumed the dress and the mode of life of a Brahmin priest, and finally wrote and palmed off as ancient a Veda in which Roman Catholic Christianity under a thin disguise was taught." --Newman, page 373.
"In England and other Protestant countries where the Jesuits were outlawed, there can be little doubt but that they frequently conformed outwardly to the established form of religion and secretly and insidiously carried on their proselytizing work." --Newman, pages 373-374.
It is as secret agents sent out into the political systems, into the public schools and universities, and into Protestant church organizations, that they achieve their highest success, and in the fullest sense, fulfill the purpose of their extensive training. Working their way into these organizations, they rise to leading responsibilities within, due to their fantastic self-discipline and thorough training. From such a vantage point they suggest, counter, compromise, and finally change the political or religious orientation of the entire organization into a new current. And, equally important, from this vantage ground they are able to aid in the hiring of other Jesuits into the organization, and clear the way that they may eventually rise to key positions of power and influence. And, at this point, they begin to work together for a more rapid growth of Catholic belief among the work force and among those sponsoring the organization. For now, as one would more outspokenly present new concepts, the others are able, through their voices on significant committees, to effectually quash opposition to the new ideas and the new ways of doing things. Gradually a quiet acceptance of compromise becomes the order of the day. But this steady erosion of basic principles is accompanied by a developing opposition to the very ones who would seek to maintain these neglected principles. Denounced as overly strict, they would be silenced, or separated from the organization.
A continual expression and promotion of strong loyalty to the organization and to its leaders enables them to quickly gain confidence and move upward. Then they quietly work to undermine the basic principles upon which it is based, by introducing doubts concerning Scriptural inspiration, principles and those who defend them. This is accompanied by a careful turning of the direction of thinking toward new ideas and concepts that are more in harmony with those of Rome.
And remember, they have had centuries to carry on their work of infiltration and sabotage. The church of Rome can afford to work slowly--for it works sure. The day is coming when all the world will wonder after the beast--and the Jesuits will be part of the reason.
From among the ranks of the Coadjutors, is selected those who will become the Professed. These become the true leaders of the world-wide structure known as the Jesuits.
It is significant that only a few in the Jesuit order understand exactly what is being done by its members throughout the world field. "What is still more remarkable, the secrets of the society are not revealed to all the professed members. It is only a small number of this class, whom old age has enriched with thorough experience, and whom long trial has declared to be worthy of such an important trust, that are instructed in the mysteries of the order." --Mosheim, Ecclesiastical History, volume 2, page 54.
Can They be Identified?
This is a matter you ought to understand--but one you will never be clear about. There is no way to clearly identify a Jesuit infiltrater. We can know how they operate and the kind of teachings they will try to introduce, but we cannot point to someone and say, "This man is a Jesuit."  we must be on our guard against Jesuitical activities, but it is not for us to label men as Jesuit agents or to declare that "the church is full of them." It is not given to us to be accusers of our brethren. We can and should recognize Jesuit teachings when we see them, but it is quite another matter to say that the one introducing them among us is a Jesuit.
Jesuit activities are being steadily carried on, whether or not we are on guard against them. When the Church of Rome controls the state, then the Jesuits are able to work openly in the government and in the schools. But when Rome has not been granted this authority, then their agents must work with greater stealth. But they will work. They have never stopped, and they never intend to until every church, organization and government reflects Catholic policy.
An interesting publication is the Monita Secreta (Secret Instructions) that H. Zaorowski, a former Jesuit, published in 1612, as a true and authentic account of the inner workings of the Society. Although quickly denied by the Jesuits themselves, it nonetheless provides a view of the worldly wisdom and unscrupulous tactics, that we shall now see verified from other sources. Consider the following:
The Jesuit Ethical System
"Their ethical system...gave them perfect freedom as to the use of means for the accomplishment of their aims." --Newman, page 376.
Here are some of the sixty-five propositions (beliefs) of the Jesuit Order, as written in an old Jesuit compendium. The following is a translation from the Latin into English:
"13. Keeping the required moderation, you can, without mortal sin, feel grieved about the life of a person; rejoice at his natural death, wish it, hope for it, with an inefficacious desire, not through hate for that person but in view of a material advantage resulting to yourself.
"14. It is allowed to wish, with an absolute desire, for the death of your father, not as an evil for him, but as an advantage to the wisher; for instance, if a large inheritance is to result from that death.
"15. It is permitted to a son, who has killed his father while in a state of drunkenness, to rejoice at his death, when a considerable inheritance results from his murder.
"37. Servants may steal secretly from their masters what they deem a compensation for extra work not sufficiently rewarded by their wages.
"38. One is not obliged, under the penalty of mortal sin, to restore what has been stolen in successive small thefts, whatever may be the amount of the total sum thus stolen.
"59. Masturbation is not prohibited by natural right.
"60. Connection with a married woman, when the husband consents, is not adultery...
"61. The servant who, by bending his shoulder, knowingly helps his master reach a window in order to violate a young girl, and frequently assists him by bringing him a ladder, opening a door, and furnishing him co-operation in a similar manner, does not commit a mortal sin if he so acts through fear of a grave damage; as, for instance, to suffer ill treatment from his master, to be considered as a fool and discharged." --Doctrine of the Jesuits, Gury, translated by M. Paul Bert, pages 416-421.
"It is not without a feeling of horror that the mind endeavors distinctly to bring before it an idea of that breaking down of the individual will and mind which Loyola exacts from his fellow men. One stands aghast at the thought of such an abnegation of the moral and intellectual faculties, when effected upon a large scale. What, it may be asked, would a society most resemble, the members of which should actually be brought down to the level of Jesuit obedience?" --Taylor, page 292.
"These doctrines, the consequence of which would destroy natural law, that rule of morality which God Himself has implanted in the hearts of men, and, consequently would break all the ties of civil society, in authorizing theft, lying, perjury, the most criminal impurity, and generally all passions and all crimes, by the teaching of secret compensation, of equivocation, of mental restrictions, of probabilism, and philosophical sin; destroy all feelings of humanity among men, in authorizing homicide, and parricide [murder of one's parents], annihilate royal authority, etc." --Gury, page 421.
"Such a perusal of the 'Constitutions and Declarations' is not simply wearisome--but it generates a feeling quite peculiar, and which is positively painful. A melancholy sentiment and a depression of the animal spirits is produced, resembling that which comes on when treading the corridors and wards of an infirmary, or of an asylum, or of a prison." --Taylor, page 301.
Five Underlying Beliefs
(1) Obedience to your superior: Here are the words of Ignatius, himself: "Recognize in the superior, whoever he may be, the Lord Jesus, and in him to offer, with the highest religious devotion, reverence, and obedience to the divine majesty." "The third and highest grade of obedience is the absolute immolation of the intellect" so that one "not only wills the same, but also thinks the same as his superior, and subjects his own judgment to his. True obedience requires that whatever the superior commands or thinks should seem to the inferior right and true." --Newman, page 377.
"This doctrine of obedience, so far as it applies to the understanding and common sense of the individual, is summarily expressed in the rule, lately cited, which enjoins that, when the Church has pronounced black to be white, we are so to think and speak, notwithstanding the evidence of our senses to the contrary." --Taylor, page 151.
(2) "The end justifies the means:" The final outcome makes right every action needed to achieve it. If it helps the Society, the Church of Rome, or the individual Jesuit serving it--it is permissible, though it may involve theft, bribery, embezzlement, rape, treason, adultery, or murder.
(3) The teaching of Probabilism: "An opinion is rendered probable [probably correct], if it has in its favor one or two theologians of repute, although there are a hundred more reputable authorities in opposition to it. The advocates of probabilism insisted that it was safe to act upon a probable opinion of this kind in opposition to the more or most probable opinions. The probabilists ransacked Catholic theological literature to find passages, which they did not hesitate to garble, that favored the laxest moral conduct, and they used these freely" in carrying on their work effectively. --Newman, page 378-379.
(4) "The scheme of evading responsibility for sinful and criminal conduct by the method of 'directing the intention' was equally destructive of good morals. In accordance with this, one may commit murder without burdening his conscience, if in the act his intention is directed to the vindication of his honor or the deliverance of the community from a nuisance, or some more important end. One may commit adultery, if in the act the intention be the promotion of one's health and comfort or some other worthy end. One may commit robbery, if the intention be directed not to the wrong done to the subject, but to the laudable object of making suitable provision for one's needs, etc." --Newman, page 379.
(5) Equally objectionable is the doctrine of 'mental reservation' or restriction, whereby one may without burdening his conscience, tell a downright falsehood, provided the word or clause that would make the statement true is in the mind. Thus, one accused of having committed a certain act last week in a certain place may swear that he was not there, reserving the statement 'this morning.' He may promise to do something, reserving in his mind a condition of which the person concerned knows nothing. Thus using mental reservation, "one may safely use ambiguous language and by tones or gestures promote the understanding of it in a false sense." --Newman, page 379.
"Why is it, then--need we ask?--why is it that the Jesuit Institute [their training school] prepares its agents for their work by first scooping clean out of their bosoms every atom of individual conscience? Why does it enjoin upon them a 'blind obedience'? Surely there is no mystery here! The Society does so because the work it undertakes, as universal curator of souls, could not be carried forward by men within whose bosoms there remained any power of resistance, or an individual sense of the incontrovertibility of right and wrong, or who, in a word, had a conscience of their own." --Taylor, pge 356.

Large numbers of Jesuit schools and colleges have been founded throughout the world, but among the most important of these, we are told by Kenneth Scott Latourette, was a group of colleges in Rome itself for the careful training of their own men. He then lists the various foreign language colleges that are included in this educational complex. But among them, of special importance is the Gregorian University (which they call the Grogoriana). It was to become their central training agency. "All these were largely under the direction of the Jesuits. For them a central teaching institution, the Roman College, later [known as] the Gregorian University, was founded, and in it Bellarmine and other distinguished Jesuits lectured." --K.S. Latourette, History of Christianity, page 872. This school appears to be one of the key training centers for this vast underground intelligence operation. Graduates of institutions such as this one are carefully worked into highly placed administrative and teaching posts in governments, churches, and their universities.
Protestantism is overlooking the past in its concern for status and a more favorable relationship with the massive power of the Roman Church. And, unfortunately, this may continue, for men strategically placed over the years by central intelligence in Rome are gradually swinging the current of popular feeling in these institutions into a new direction. A Jesuit principle is that it can afford to work slowly, for it has time to wait.
There are many Protestants today who need to get down their history books and carefully study the past that they may better understand the dangers existing in the present. The powerful Protestant Reformation of the fifteenth century was stopped, reversed, and nearly blotted out in nation after nation of Europe because of the penetration and intrigue of Jesuits in the schools, governments and royal courts of Europe--agents subtly at work flattering men that they could continue in their sins if they would compromise their personal principles and the principles of their organizations, as a suitable substitute for making their peace with God.
The Jesuit Method
One of the most impassioned of their concerns was the blotting out of Protestantism from Europe and elsewhere. For four hundred years the Jesuits have worked determinedly to make daughters for Babylon, yet but few realize their basic infiltration tactic:
As a dark thread running through the artfully, instilled ideas of these Jesuit agents--the conditioning wedge that enables them to succeed in their espionage to compromise and enlist the support of those they associate with--is the Roman Catholic teaching that man cannot, in the strength of Christ, obey the law of God and put away sin. The smooth words are spoken: "Sin really isn't such a problem. Go ahead and live your few years. There is no way you can fight sin successfully. 'You shall not surely die,' for Heaven has provided another way--through the Church--to save you in your sins. Here, I will show it to you..."
This insidious teaching, carefully implanted, is the basis of Jesuitical power to infiltrate an organization, captivate the imagination, and corrupt and mold another new convert--for having once cast aside the restrictions of the moral law--the Ten Commandments--and having chosen the bondage of sin, and thinking its chains to be hopeless of removal--he is suggestible, and prepared to pacify his conscience by compromising the principles of his organization and those in it, for he has already compromised his own. This is the Jesuit Method--used with outstanding success--all through history, the method being used today.
Don't Forget the Past
"More than any other agency it [the Jesuit order] stayed the progress of the Reformation." --Painter, quoted in E.A. Sutherland, Studies in Christian Education, page 9.
Innumerable examples of their implacable opposition to non-Catholic belief can be shown, from the history of nation after nation of Europe after 1550. Never forget that every Jesuit has been thoroughly trained for only one purpose, to which he has dedicated the remainder of his mortal life--to eradicate non-Catholic teaching. And when he is given the power, he will blot out those holding those teachings, as well.

The purpose of this segment is to show how this "Society of Jesus"—Jesuits—has been able to counter the work of Protestantism and almost silence its voice.
The following articles, which give an account of the Vatican's involvement in the Great Wars, are condensed from The Secret History of the Jesuits. This book is for those who seek to understand more about the history of Europe and the reason for the wars. It depicts what lies ahead for nations that sell their soul to the New World Order—all liberty will be lost.
The book reveals the penetration and infiltration of the Jesuits into the governments and nations of the world to manipulate the course of history by setting up dictatorships, and weakening democracies such as the United States of America, by paving the way for social, political, moral, military, educational and religious anarchy.
In fact, most early books retracing the history of the Jesuits cannot be found anymore.
For this reason, the subject of the Jesuits will never be exhausted every epoch will have the duty to add a few pages to it, to mark the continuity of this occult system started four centuries ago. The Roman Church couldn't give up the great purpose which has been her goal from the beginning: to gather under her crozier all the nations of the universe.
As the majority of works regarding the Jesuits do not refer to the paramount part they took in the events which have subverted the world during the past fifty years, we thought it was time to fill up the gap.
Of all the factors which have played a part in the international life of a century full of confusion and upheavals, one of the most decisive—nevertheless best recognised—resides in the ambition of the Roman Church. Her secular desire to extend her influence towards the East made her the "spiritual" ally of Pan-Germanism and its accomplice in the attempt to gain supreme power which twice, in 1914 and 1939, brought death and ruin to the peoples of Europe.
The public is practically unaware of the overwhelming responsibility carried by the Vatican and its Jesuits in the start of the two world wars....
The Vatican gave a helping hand to the carrying out of these crimes by "lending" some of its pelates to be made into pro-Nazi agents; these were Messeigneurs Hlinka and Tiso. It also sent to Croatia its own legate—R.P. Marcone—who, with the help of Monseigneur Stepinac, had to keep an eye on the "work" of Ante Pavelitch and his oustachis. Wherever we look, the same "edifying" spectacle presents itself.
The Vatican's unpardonable crime lies in the decisive part played in the bringing about of two world wars.
Only empty words can be found to oppose this stack of evidence which proves the culpability of the Vatican and its Jesuits. Their help was the main force behind the lightning rise of Hitler who, together with Mussolini and Franco, who in spite of appearances were but war pawns manipulated by the Vatican and its Jesuits.
Let us see, first, how an especially "authorised" personality, Franco, (Catholic dictator of Spain) Knight of the Order of Christ, expressly confirmed the collusion between the Vatican and the Nazis. According to "Reforme," this is what the press of the Spanish dictator published on the 3rd of May 1945, the day of Hitler's death:
"Adolf Hitler, son of the Catholic Church, died while defending Christianity. It is therefore understandable that words cannot be found to lament over his death, when so many were found to exalt his life. Over his mortal remains stands his victorious moral figure. With the palm of the martyr, God gives Hitler the laurels of Victory." (Reforme, 21st July, 1945.)
This funeral oration of the Nazi chief, is voiced by the Holy See itself, under the cover of Franco's press. It is a communiqué of the Vatican given via Madrid.
Of course, this missing hero well deserved the gratitude of the Roman Church and they do not attempt to conceal it. He served her faithfully: all those this Church pointed out to him as her adversaries felt the consequences. And this good "son" wasn't slow in admitting what he owed to his Most Holy Mother.
"I learned much from the Order of the Jesuits," said Hitler... "Until now, there has never been anything more grandiose, on the earth, than the hierarchical organisation of the Catholic Church. I transferred much of this organisation into my own party..."
Walter Schellenberg, former chief of the German counter-espionage, completed this confidence from the Fuhrer, after the war:
"The S.S. organisation had been constituted by Himmler, according to the principles of the Jesuits' Order. Their regulations and the Spiritual Exercises prescribed by Ignatius of Loyola were the model Himmler tried to copy exactly... The "Reichsfuhrer SS" — Himmler's title as supreme chief of the SS — was to be the equivalent of the Jesuits' "General" and the whole structure of the direction was a close imitation of the Catholic Church's hierarchical order.
Michaele Schmaus, Jesuit theologian, presented a series of studies on the similarities between Catholic and Nazi doctrines: "Empire and Church" is a series of writings which should help the building up of the Third Reich as it unites a national-socialist state to Catholic-Christianity... Nothing is more contrary to Catholicism than democracy... The national-socialist Commandments and those of the Catholic Church have the same aim..."
"Hitler, Goebbels, Himmler and most members of the party's "old guard" were Catholics," wrote M. Frederic Hoffet. "It was not by accident that, because of its chiefs' religion, the National-socialist government was the most Catholic Germany ever had..."
Hitler, speaking of the Gestapo chief said, "I can see Himmler as our Ignatius of Loyola."
"The Jesuits' general, Count Halke von Ledochowski, was ready to organise some collaboration between the German Secret Service and the Jesuit Order."
As a result, within the SS Central Security Service, an organisation was created, and most of its main posts were held by Catholic priests wearing the black uniform of the SS. The Jesuit Father Himmler was one of its superior officers.

...another Jesuit, sometime before, Father Staempfle, the unrecognised author of "Mein Kampf." Strange coincidence indeed... To what extent the Catholics were masters of Nazi Germany soon became apparent as also did the severity with which some of the "Papacy's high principles" were applied.
The right the Church arrogates herself to exterminate slowly or speedily those who are in the way was "put into practice" at Auschwitz, Dachau, Belsen, Buchenwald, and other death camps. The Gestapo of Himmler, "our Ignatius of Loyola," diligently performed these charitable deeds.
Another well-informed person, the mainspring of the pact between the Holy See and Berlin and the pope's secret chamberlain, Franz von Papen, was even more explicit:

"The Third Reich is the first world power
which not only acknowledges but
also puts into practice the
high principles of the papacy."

Out of all the fictions generally accepted in this world, the spirit of peace and harmony attributed to the Holy See is probably the most difficult to root up.
In spite of the lessons of History, not fully known or too quickly forgotten, the one who calls himself "Christ's vicar" must necessarily incarnate, in the eyes of many, the ideal of love and fraternity taught by the Gospel.

The Papacy is founded upon the theory that the state is the lawful and rightful servant of the church; that human laws should take cognizance of men's religious beliefs, and compel them to yield obedience to the dogmas and dictates of the church. It implies a union of the church with the state, with the state, not as an equal, but as servant of the church. This is the Papacy.
By voice and pen the warning must be given. If professed Protestants do not immediately arouse, the battle will be lost forever. They will awaken to discover the enemy in control of church, press and government.
There are many who profess to be Protestant or members of churches that were once Protestant who need to get down their history books and study the past that they may better understand the dangers existing at the present.

Publisher's Introduction
There is no other person more qualified to introduce Edmond Paris' book, "The Secret History of the Jesuits," than Dr. Alberto Rivera, a former Jesuit priest under the extreme oath and induction, who was trained in the Vatican and briefed on the history of the Jesuits.

The information in this book is factual and fully documented, and it should be read by every Bible-believing Christian in the United States and Canada. The Bible says, "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge." (Hosea 4:6)
Dr. Rivera's Introduction
The most dangerous of men are those who appear very religious, especially when they are organized and in a position of authority. They have the deep respect of the people who are ignorant of their ungodly push for power behind the scenes.

These religious men, who pretend to love God, will resort to murder, incite revolution and wars if necessary to help their cause. They are crafty, intelligent, smooth religious politicians who live in a shadowy world of secrets, intrigue, and phony holiness. This pattern, seen in "The Secret History of the Jesuits," spiritually speaking can be seen in the Scribes, Pharisees and Sadducees at the time of Jesus Christ. This same evil spirit directed the Roman emperors to issue the ten murderous decrees to persecute the early Christian church.
The "Early Fathers" observed most of the ancient Babylonian system plus Jewish theology and Greek philosophy. They all perverted most of the teachings of Christ and His apostles. They paved the way for the Roman Catholic machine that was to come into existence. Piously, they attacked, perverted, added to and took away from the Bible. This religious anti-christ spirit working through them is seen again when Ignatius de Loyola created the Jesuits to secretly accomplish two major goals for the Roman Catholic Institution: 1) universal political power, and 2) a universal church, in fulfillment of the prophecies of Revelation 6, 13, 17 and 18.
By the time Ignatius de Loyola arrived on the scene, the Protestant Reformation had seriously damaged the Roman Catholic system. Ignatius de Loyola came to the conclusion that the only way his "church" could survive was by enforcing the canons and doctrines on the temporal power of the pope and the Roman Catholic institution; not by just destroying the physical life of the people alone as the Dominican priests were doing through the Inquisition, but by infiltration and penetration into every sector of life. Protestantism must be conquered and used for the benefit of the popes. That was Ignatius de Loyola's personal proposal, among others, to Pope Paul III. Jesuits immediately went to work secretly infiltrating ALL the Protestant groups including their families, places of work, hospitals, schools, colleges, etc. Today, the Jesuits have almost completed that mission.
The Bible puts the power of a local church into the hands of a Godly pastor. But the cunning Jesuits successfully managed over the years to remove that power into the hands of denomination headquarters, and have now pushed almost all of the Protestant denominations into the arms of the Vatican. This is exactly what Ignatius de Loyola set out to accomplish: a universal church and the end of Protestantism.
As you read "The Secret History of the Jesuits," you will see there is a parallel between the religious and political sectors. The author, Mr. Paris, reveals the penetration and infiltration of the Jesuits into the governments and nations of the world to manipulate the course of history by setting up dictatorships, and weakening democracies such as the United States of America, by paving the way for social, political, moral, military, educational and religious anarchy.
The man, Edmond Paris
In the prophetical works of the Book of Revelation, Edmond Paris became a martyr for Jesus. In exposing such a conspiracy, he put his life at stake for truth of the prophetical signs to be known. Edmond Paris never knew me, but I knew him without meeting him personally when I, with other Jesuits under the extreme oath and induction, was being briefed on the names of institutions and individuals in Europe who were dangerous to the goals of the Roman Catholic Institution. His name was given to us.

Works by Edmond Paris
The Edmond Paris works on Roman Catholicism brought about the pledge on the part of the Jesuits to: 1) destroy him, 2) destroy his reputation, including his family, and 3) destroy his work. And even now these great works of Edmond Paris are being tampered with, but we are praying that God will continue to preserve them when they are most needed for the salvation of Roman Catholic people.

So, the future pope was starting his twelve years as nuncio in Munich, then in Berlin, in the way he meant to go on, for, during those years, he multiplied the intrigues to overthrow the German Republic established after the first world war and prepare the revenge of 1939 by bringing Hitler to power.
Yet, when the Allies signed the treaty of Versailles, in July 1919, they were so conscious of the part played by the Vatican in the conflict that it was carefully kept away from the conference table. And, even more surprising, it was the most Catholic State, Italy, which had insisted on its exclusion.
"Through art. XV of the pact of London (26th of April 1915), which defined Italy's participation in the war, Baron Sonnino had obtained the promise from the other Allies that they would oppose any intervention of the papacy in the peace arrangements." This measure was wise but insufficient. Instead of applying the sanctions against the Holy See which it deserved for sparking off the first world war, the victors did nothing to prevent the further intrigues of the Jesuits and the Vatican; these eventually, 20 years later, led to a catastrophe even worse, maybe the worst the world has known.

"Protestants there are, but Protestantism is no more." --Alexander Vinet

Founders of "Mainline" Churches Knew Who Anti-Christ Was The following quotes show just how far the churches of today have strayed from the wisdom of their founding fathers.
Martin Luther (1483-1546) (Lutheran)
"We here are of the conviction that the papacy is the seat of the true and real Antichrist...personally I declare that I owe the Pope no other obedience than that to Antichrist."
(Aug. 18, 1520) Taken from The Prophetic Faith of Our Fathers, Vol. 2., pg. 121 by Froom.
(In response to a papal bull [official decree]): "I despise and attack it, as impious, false... It is Christ Himself who is condemned therein... I rejoice in having to bear such ills for the best of causes. Already I feel greater liberty in my heart; for at last I know that the pope is antichrist, and that his throne is that of Satan himself." --D'Aubigné, b.6, ch. 9.

John Calvin (1509-1564) (Presbyterian)
"Some persons think us too severe and censorious when we call the Roman pontiff Antichrist. But those who are of this opinion do not consider that they bring the same charge of presumption against Paul himself, after whom we speak and whose language we adopt... I shall briefly show that (Paul's words in II Thess. 2) are not capable of any other interpretation than that which applies them to the Papacy."
Taken from Institutes by John Calvin.

Cotton Mather (1663-1728) (Congregational Theologian)
"The oracles of God foretold the rising of an Antichrist in the Christian Church: and in the Pope of Rome, all the characteristics of that Antichrist are so marvelously answered that if any who read the Scriptures do not see it, there is a marvelous blindness upon them."
Taken from The Fall of Babylon by Cotton Mather in Froom's book, The Prophetic Faith of Our Fathers, Vol. 3, pg. 113.

John Knox (1505-1572) (Scotch Presbyterian)
Knox wrote to abolish "that tyranny which the pope himself has for so many ages exercised over the church" and that the pope should be recognized as "the very antichrist, and son of perdition, of whom Paul speaks."
Taken from The Zurich Letters, pg. 199 by John Knox.

Thomas Cranmer (1489-1556) (Anglican)
"Whereof it followeth Rome to be the seat of antichrist, and the pope to be very antichrist himself. I could prove the same by many other scriptures, old writers, and strong reasons." (Referring to prophecies in Revelation and Daniel.)
Taken from Works by Cranmer, Vol. 1, pp. 6-7.

John Wesley (1703-1791) (Methodist)
Speaking of the Papacy he said, "He is in an emphatical sense, the Man of Sin, as he increases all manner of sin above measure. And he is, too, properly styled the Son of Perdition, as he has caused the death of numberless multitudes, both of his opposers and followers... He it is...that exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped...claiming the highest power, and highest honour...claiming the prerogatives which belong to God alone."
Taken from Antichrist and His Ten Kingdoms by John Wesley, pg. 110.

Roger Williams (1603-1683) (First Baptist Pastor in America)
He spoke of the Pope as "the pretended Vicar of Christ on earth, who sits as God over the Temple of God, exalting himself not only above all that is called God, but over the souls and consciences of all his vassals, yea over the Spirit of Christ, over the Holy Spirit, yea, and God himself...speaking against the God of heaven, thinking to change times and laws; but he is the son of perdition (II Thess. 2)."
Taken from The Prophetic Faith of Our Fathers by Froom, Vol. 3, pg. 52.

Not too long ago, great men of God believed the pope was an Anti-Christ.¹ They were Wycliffe, Luther, Calvin, Tyndale, Knox, Sir Isaac Newton, Fox, Wesley, Finney, Moody, Spurgeon. Could they be right? Lets see what Pope Boniface VIII said about himself:
"The Roman Pontiff judges all men, but is judged by no one.
"We declare, assert, define and pronounce: To be subject to the Roman Pontiff is to every human creature altogether necessary for salvation...
"That which was spoken of Christ...'Thou hast subdued all things under His feet,' may well seem verified in me. I have the authority of the King of kings. I am all in all and above all, so that God, Himself and I, the Vicar of God, have but one consistory, and I am able to do almost all that God can do. What therefore, can you make of me but God?"²

There you have it! Pope Boniface VIII admitted he was an Antichrist. Now...who will you serve? You must choose... Christ? Or the Vatican?

3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. 7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.
8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:
9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

                     --II Thessalonians Chapter 2.

There is a counterfeit Christian so polished, so highly respectable that the world is blinded about who she really is. Only the Word of God can tell the difference between the true and false, and the Bible calls the Church or Rome the Great Whore in the Book of Revelation. The Pope is an Anti-Christ, and his bride is the Church of the Vatican.

4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.
5 For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.

                --Revelation 18

The precious Roman Catholics have been betrayed by a slick presentation of Baal (Sun) worship dressed up to look like Christianity. Their popes are only men. Their priests and nuns are only people, and the Vatican is only a temple of Satan, taking millions into hell by giving them a false gospel, a false Christ and another spirit. May God help them to have the strength to come out of her.
                See Gal. 1:8, 9; II Cor. 11:1-4.
To understand the meaning of this word Papacy, we must refer to Revelation 2:13 where it has its origin.
"I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where Satan's seat is: and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in those days wherein ANTIPAS was my faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth." (Rev. 2:13)
This word Antipas does not describe an individual. It is composed of two words, ANTI and PAPAS. Anti signifies against, and papas signifies papa. Antipas, the faithful martyr, signified those who stood against "papa," even to the losing of their lives. The "papa" here referred to was the "father" of that system of religion which was but an outgrowth of the mixing of Christianity with paganism and then combining that with the power of civil government so that all who would not abide by her decrees should suffer the penalty of imprisonment and death. The religious system that was formed from this union of pagan-christianity, backed by the power of civil government, is known to all Bible scholars and historians as the Papa-cy or Papacy. The leader of this system is no longer known as "Papa" but as "Pope." Papa signifying "father," he is known also as "Holy Father." Being but an outgrowth of the old Roman religious system, it is also known as Roman Catholicism. History records that while the other principle bishops and church leaders bore the title of "patriarch," the bishop at Rome avoided that term, preferring the title of "Papa" for himself which tended to distinguish him as part and above the others.
The faithful martyrs, known as Antipas, stood against this system at the peril of their lives. In history this time period is known as the Dark Ages, the Protestant Reformation and Spanish Inquisition. Many Christians suffered at this time. Those who chose to remain pure and accepted no authority other than the Holy Scriptures were labeled as "heretics" and were stuffed into dungeons, burnt at the stake, thrown to the lions and beheaded by guillotines. History books, encyclopedias and church books tell the story and none need be ignorant of the power behind the slaying of the Christians. The time period of Pergamos was that phase of Christianity leading to the formation of the Papacy and the assertion of authority by the Pope.
Paul, in 2 Thess. 2, describes him as "that man of sin."
"Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed... Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God." (2 Thess. 2: 3-4.)
Daniel pictures the same power as a little horn or king in Daniel chapters 7 and 8.

"We should remember that Satan does not appear as a monster with horns, a long tail, and a pitchfork. Instead, he appears as an angel of light (2 Cor. 11:14). As Jesus warned about "wolves in sheep's clothing" (Matt. 7:15), so in numerous instances the paganism that was disguised in the outer garments of Christianity became a mixture that has deceived millions. It was like removing the warning label from a bottle of poison and substituting a peppermint candy label in its place. The contents are deadly just the same. No matter how much we may dress it up on the outside, paganism is deadly. True worship must be "in spirit and in truth" (John 4:24)--not pagan error."

Many have a wrong conception of the Antichrist and what it means. Perhaps the next statement will help in this matter:
"Antichrist, Vicar of Christ: The apostle John,...speaking of the apostasy, the coming of which he predicts, styles it the "Antichrist." And we have also said that the Papacy, speaking through its representative and head, calls itself the "Vicar of Christ." The first, "antichrist," is a Greek word; the second, "vicar," is an English word; but the two are in reality one, for both words have the same meaning. Antichrist translated into English is vice-Christ, or vicar of Christ; and vicar of Christ, rendered into Greek, is Antichrist--Antichristos. If we can establish this--and the ordinary use of the word by those to whom the Greek was a vernacular, is decisive on the point--we shall have no difficulty in showing that this is the meaning of the word "Antichrist," even a vice-Christ. And if so, then every time the Pope claims to be the vicar of Christ, he pleads at the bar of the world that he is the Antichrist."

Blasphemous titles claimed for the pope have been embellished and enlarged over the centuries. But a few of these boastful claims appear in an ecclesiastical (Roman Catholic) dictionary, by Lucius Ferraris, entitled Prompta Bibliotheca Canonica, Vol. VI, pgs. 438, 442, article "Pope." The Catholic Encyclopedia, 1913 edition, Vol. VI, p. 48, speaks of this book as "a veritable encyclopedia of religious knowledge," and "a precious mine of information."
"The pope is of so great dignity and so exalted that he is not a mere man, but as it were God, and the vicar of God."
"The Pope is of such lofty and supreme dignity that, properly speaking, he has not been established in any rank of dignity, but rather has been placed upon the very summit of all ranks of dignities..."
"He is likewise the divine monarch and supreme emperor and king of kings."
"Hence the pope is crowned with a triple crown, as king of heaven and of earth and of the lower regions."
"So that if it were possible that the angels might err in the faith, or might think contrary to the faith, they could be judged and excommunicated by the pope."
"The pope is as it were God on earth, sole sovereign of the faithful of Christ, chief king of kings, having plenitude of power, to whom has been entrusted by the omnipotent God direction not only of the earthly but also of the heavenly kingdom."
"The pope can modify divine law, since his power is not of man but of God."

"The Roman Pontiff, when he speaks ex cathedra--that is, when in the exercise of his office as pastor and teacher of all Christians he defines, by virtue of his supreme Apostolic authority, a doctrine of faith or morals to be held by the whole Church--is...possessed of that infallibility with which the Divine Redeemer wished His Church to be endowed...and consequently that such definitions of the Roman Pontiff are irreformable of their own nature."

We will just mention a doctrine widespread among Christianity today. We speak here of the "secret rapture" or "rapture" theory. According to their theory the Lord is to come secretly for His saints: they are to be caught up (raptured) to meet Him in the air without the world knowing that anything is happening; then an individual known as the "Antichrist" is to make his appearance, to assume power as a world Dictator, and make a covenant with the Jews to allow them to set up again their temple worship in Jerusalem. Seven years after the rapture, Christ is to come back with His saints to destroy the Antichrist and set up His reign of a thousand years on this earth. All these things are described in as much detail as if they were actually taught in the Bible, and even some good men have got the impression that the Bible does actually contain them.
It may come as a shock to many good people to learn that this teaching was originated by the Bible's worst enemies! The Jesuit priest, Ribera, was responsible for this and it was Rome's most effective weapon to break the influence that the Protestant Reformers were having. It was published with the design to shift the odium of being the Antichrist away from the Pope and imply that the Reformers' view of the Papacy as the Antichrist was wrong.
The following observations come from prominent Protestant writers and theologians:
"Jesuit Ribera tried to set aside the application of these prophecies to the papal power by bringing out the futurist system, which asserts that these prophecies refer properly, not to the papacy, but to that of some future supernatural individual, who is yet to appear, and to continue in power for 3½ years.
"Those who advocate the futurist system, Protestants as they are for the most part, are thus playing into the hands of Rome and helping to screen the Papacy from detection as the anti-Christ. It has been well said that 'Futurism tends to obliterate the brand put by the Holy Spirit upon Popery.' " --Daniel and Revelation, Rev. Joseph Tanner, B.A., p. 16, 17.
Most Christian groups fail to connect "the man of sin" and the "anti-Christ" to the power of the "little horn" in Daniel. Read Rome's own words on this:
"Antichrist--The Little Horn: After studying the picture of anti-Christ in St. Paul's Epistle to the Thessalonians, one easily recognises the "man of sin" in Daniel 7:8, 11, 20, 21 where the prophet (Daniel) describes the little horn." --The Catholic Encyclopedia, Vol. 1, p. 560.
The Reformers embodied their interpretation of prophecy in their confessions of faith. All the Reformers were unanimous in the matter...and their interpretation of those prophecies determined their reforming action. With one mind and mouth all these Protestants agreed in the substances of their protests. To them Rome was Babylon, and its proud head anti-Christ.
The following quotations come from the book, Lessons from The Reformation:
Matthias wrote: "It is one of the cunning tricks of the arch-enemy to persuade men that Antichrist is still to come; when, in truth, he is now present and so has been for a long time. But men are less on their guard against him when they look for him as yet to come.

"Antichrist must be more cunning than all that.
His organs must stand forth in the name of Christ,
and profess to be His ministers."
He is thus to deceive men under the mask of Christianity.
"Just as it happened with those Jews who called Christ a deceiver; thus too the actual Antichrist will dream of another Antichrist to come."
Luther said: "I know that the Pope is Antichrist, and that his see is that of Satan himself.
"The papacy is a general chase, by command of the Roman pontiff, for the purpose of running down and destroying souls."
Luther's sledge-hammer blows are but the result of his mighty assurance from the study of the Scriptures that "the reign of Antichrist, predicted and described in the Bible, is the papacy."

God's Estimate of the Papal Power--
By their treatment of His Word the popes have exalted themselves above the God of heaven. This is the reason that in prophecy the papal power is specified as the "man of sin"...

Although those standing at the head of the Papacy claim to have great love for God, He looks upon them as haters of Him. They have turned the truth of God into a lie. Tampering with God's commandments and placing in their stead human traditions, is the work of Satan, and will divorce the religious world from God.
Representative of Satan--
There is one pointed out in prophecy as the man of sin. He is the representative of Satan... This man of sin comes in and represents to the world that he has changed that law (of God), and that the first day of the week instead of the seventh is now the Sabbath. By so doing, he exalts himself above God... And the Christian world has sanctioned his efforts by adopting this child of the Papacy--the Sunday institution. They have nourished it, and will continue to nourish it, until Protestantism shall give the hand of fellowship to the Roman power.
--Seventh-day Adventist Bible Commentary
, Comments on 2 Thess. Chapter 2, Vol. 7, p. 910.
Prophecy represents Protestantism as having lamblike horns, but speaking like a dragon. Already we are beginning to hear the voice of the dragon. There is a satanic force propelling the Sunday movement, but it is concealed. Even the men who are engaged in the work, are themselves blinded to the results which will follow their movement.
The Word of God plainly declares that His law is to be scorned, trampled upon, by the world; there will be an extraordinary prevalence of iniquity. The professed Protestant world will form a confederacy with the man of sin, and the church and the world will be in corrupt harmony.
Here the great crisis is coming upon the world. The Scriptures teach that popery is to regain its lost supremacy, and that the fires of persecution will be rekindled through the timeserving concessions of the so-called Protestant world.
Let not the commandment-keeping people of God be silent at this time, as though we gracefully accepted the situation.

These are links to Chick Publications
(Excellent Gospel tracts and Christian books.)
These are some of my favourite Chick cartoon tracts. Only the first four deal with Catholicism but Chick Publications has a lot of other literature on the subject.
But first a caveat: Many sincere and Godly ministries have unfortunately bought into certain deeply-inculcated and well-established false doctrines and pagan myths. Among these are the belief in the natural immortality of the soul (pagan myth, see Genesis 3:4, Ezekiel 18:4, 20, I Timothy 6:15, 16) and the subsequent heresy of the eternally burning hell (see Jude 7, Revelation 20:9; 21:1, 4), the sacredness of Sunday (counterfeit Lord's Day, see Mark 2:27, 28, Exodus 20:8-11), and the Secret Rapture doctrine. I don't know Jack Chick's stand on the Sunday "sabbath," but his gospel tracts are replete with the immortality of the soul doctrine, i.e., upon death a person's "immortal soul" immediately leaves his body to go before God to be judged into either heaven or a never-ending hell. Despite this, his tracts are effective and eminently readable!

Are Roman Catholics Christians?
I think a better title for this tract would have been "Is Roman Catholicism Christianity?" Keep in mind that a Christian is anyone who accepts what he knows is true and does what he knows is right even if he might be in error on some points. (See James 4:17, I John 3:8) Accepting truth means you are accepting Christ who is the Truth and the Definer thereof. This makes a person a Christian automatically even if he never even heard of Jesus Christ. Many Catholics are just as much Christians as any Protestant, Hindu or Muslim etc. who lives up to all the light which God has provided for him.

Excerpts from
Fifty Years in the "Church" of Rome
by Charles Chiniquy

The following are excerpts from a book originally published in 1888, written by a former priest named Charles Chiniquy, who had a parish in Quebec, Canada and in the state of Illinois, and was a personal friend of Abraham Lincoln.

Americans! you are sleeping on a volcano, and you do not suspect it! You are pressing on your bosom a viper which will bite you to death, and you do not know it.
Read this book, and you will see that Rome is the sworn, the most implacable, and absolutely irreconcilable, and deadly enemy of your schools, your institutions, your so dearly-bought rights and liberties.
Read this book, and you will not only understand that it is to Rome you owe the rivers of blood and the unspeakable horrors of the last civil war; but you will also learn that Romanism and Liberty cannot live on the same ground. This has been declared by the Popes hundreds of times.
Read this book, and you will not only see that Abraham Lincoln was murdered by Rome, but you will learn that Romanism, under the mask of religion, is nothing but a permanent political conspiracy against all the most sacred rights of man and the most holy laws of God.
In these pages you will not learn to hate the Roman Catholics. No! but you will learn to be more than ever watchful in guarding the precious treasures of Freedom bestowed upon you by your fathers—you will learn never to let them fall into the hands of those who, with the sacred name of Liberty on their lips, and the mask of Liberty on their faces, are sworn to destroy all Liberty.
Venerable ministers of the Gospel! Rome is the great danger ahead for the Church of Christ, and you do not understand it enough. The atmosphere of light, honesty, truth, and holiness in which you are born, and which you have breathed since your infancy, makes it almost impossible for you to realise the dark mysteries of idolatry, immorality, degrading slavery, hatred of the Word of God, concealed behind the walls of that modern Babylon. You are too honest to suspect them; and your precious time is too much taken by the sacred duties of your ministry, to study the long labyrinth of argumentations which form the bulk of the greater number of controversial books. Besides that, the majority of the books of controversy against Rome are of such a dry character, that though many begin to read them, very few have the courage to go to the end. The consequence is an ignorance of Romanism which becomes more and more deplorable and fatal every day.
It is that ignorance which paves the way to the triumph of Rome in a near future, if there is not a complete change in your views on that subject.
It is that ignorance which paralyses the arm of the Church of Christ, and makes the glorious word "Protestant" senseless, almost a dead and ridiculous word. For who does really protest against Rome today? —where are those who sound the trumpet of alarm?
When Rome is striking you to the heart by cursing your schools, and wrenching the Bible from the hands of your children; when she is not only battering your doors, but sealing your walls and storming your citadels, how few dare go to the breach and repulse the audacious and sacrilegious foe!
Why so? Because modern Protestants have not only forgotten what Rome was, what she is, and what she will forever be: the most irreconcilable and powerful enemy of the Gospel of Christ; but they consider her almost as a branch of the Church whose cornerstone is Christ.
Faithful ministers of the Gospel! I present you this book that you may know that the monster Church of Rome, who shed the blood of your forefathers, is still at work today at your very doors, to enchain your people to the feet of her idols. Read it, and for the first time you will see the inside life of Popery with the exactness of photography. From the supreme art with which the mind of the young and timid child is fettered, enchained, and paralysed, to the unspeakable degradation of the priest under the iron heel of the bishop, everything will be revealed to you as it has never been before.
The superstitions, the ridiculous and humiliating practices, the secret and mental agonies of the monks, the nuns, and the priests, will be shown to you as they were never shown before. In this book, the sophisms and errors of Romanism are discussed and refuted with a clearness, simplicity and evidence which my twenty-five years of priesthood only could teach me. It is not in boasting that I say this. There can be no boasting in me for having been so many years an abject slave of the Pope. The book I offer you is an arsenal filled with the best weapons you ever had to fight, and, with the help of God, conquer the foe....
In the name of your immortal souls, I ask you, Roman Catholics, to read this book.
By the mercy of God, you will find in its pages how you are cruelly deceived by your vain and lying traditions.
You will see that it is not through your ceremonies, masses, confessions, purgatory, indulgences, fastings, etc., you are saved. You have nothing to do but to believe, repent, and love.
Salvation is a gift! Eternal life is a gift! Forgiveness of sin is a gift! Christ is a gift!
Read this book, presented by the most devoted of your friends, and by the mercy of God, you will see the errors of your ways—you will look to the GIFT—you will accept it—and in its possession you will feel rich and happy for time and eternity.

Chapter LIX
Rome is in constant conspiracy against the rights and liberties of man all over the world; but she is particularly so in the United States.
Long before I was ordained a priest I knew that my Church was the most implacable enemy of this Republic. My professors of philosophy, history, and theology had been unanimous in telling me that the principles and laws of the Church of Rome were absolutely antagonistic to the laws and principles which are the foundation-stones of the Constitution of the United States.
1st. The most sacred principle of the United States Constitution is the equality of every citizen before the law. But the fundamental principle of the Church of Rome is the denial of that equality.
2nd. Liberty of conscience is proclaimed by the United States a most sacred principle, which every citizen must uphold, even at the price of his blood. But liberty of conscience is declared by all the Popes and Councils of Rome, a most godless, unholy, and diabolical thing, which every good Catholic must abhor and destroy at any cost.
3rd. The American Constitution assures the absolute independence of the civil from the ecclesiastical or Church power; but the Church of Rome declares, through all her Pontiffs and Councils, that such independence is an impiety and a revolt against God.
4th. The American Constitution leaves every man free to serve God according to the dictates of his conscience; but the Church of Rome declares that no man has ever had such a right, and that the Pope alone can know and say what man must believe and do.
5th. The Constitution of the United States denies the right in anybody to punish any other for differing from him in religion. But the Church of Rome says that she has a right to punish with the confiscation of their goods, or the penalty of death, those who differ in faith from the Pope.
6th. The United States have established schools all over their immense territories, where they invite the people to send their children, that they may cultivate their intelligence and become good and useful citizens. But the Church of Rome has publicly cursed all those schools, and forbidden their children to attend them, under pain of excommunication in this world and damnation in the next.
7th. The Constitution of the United States is based on the principle that the people are the primary source of all civil power. But, hundreds of times, the Church of Rome has proclaimed that this principle is impious and heretical. She says that "all government must rest upon the foundation of the Catholic faith; with the Pope alone as the legitimate and infallible source and interpreter of the law."
I could cite many other things, proving that the Church of Rome is an absolute and irreconcilable enemy of the United States; but it would be too long. These are sufficient to show to the American people that Rome is a viper, which they feed and press upon their bosom. Sooner or later that viper will bite to death and kill this Republic.
This was foretold by Lafayette, and is now promulgated by the greatest thinkers of our time.
The greatest inventor, or rather the immortal father of electric telegraphy, Samuel Morse, found it out when in Rome, and published it in 1834, in his remarkable work, "Conspiracies Against the Liberties of the United States." The learned Dr. S. Ireneus Prime, in his life of Prof. Morse, says: "When Mr. Morse was in Italy, he became acquainted with several ecclesiastics of the Church of Rome, and he was led to believe, from what he learned from them, that a political conspiracy, under the cloak of a religious mission, was formed against the United States. When he came to Paris and enjoyed the confidence and friendship of Lafayette, he stated his convictions to the General, who fully concurred with him in the reality of such a conspiracy."
That great statesman and patriot, the late Richard W. Thompson, Secretary of the Navy, in his admirable work, "The Papacy and the Civil Power," says, "Nothing is plainer than that, if the principles of the Church of Rome prevail here, our constitution would necessarily fall. The two cannot exist together. They are in open and direct antagonism with the fundamental theory of our government and of all popular government everywhere."
The eloquent Spanish orator, Castelar, speaking of his own Church of Rome, said, in 1869: There is not a single progressive principle that has not been cursed by the Catholic Church. This is true of England and Germany, as well as of all Catholic countries. The Church cursed the French Revolution, the Belgian Constitution, and Italian Independence. Not a Constitution has been born, not a step of progress made, not a solitary reform effected, which has not been under the terrific anathemas of the Church."
But why ask the testimony of Protestants or Liberals to warn the American people against that conspiracy, when we have the public testimony of all the bishops and priests to prove it? With the most daring impudence, the Church of Rome, through her leading men, is boasting of her stern determination to destroy all the rights and privileges which have cost so much blood to this American people. Let the Americans, who have eyes to see and intelligence to understand, read the following unimpeachable documents, and judge for themselves of what will become of this country, if Rome is allowed to grow strong enough to execute her threats.
"The Church is of necessity intolerant. Heresy, she endures when and where she must, but she hates it, and directs all her energies to destroy it.
"If Catholics ever gain a sufficient numerical majority in this country, religious freedom is at an end. So our enemies say, so we believe." —The Shepherd of the Valley, official journal of the bishop of St. Louis, Nov. 23, 1851.
"No man has a right to choose his religion. Catholicism is the most intolerant of creeds. It is intolerance itself. We might as rationally maintain that two and two does not make four as the theory of Religious Liberty. Its impiety is only equalled by its absurdity." —New York Freeman, official journal of Bishop Hughes, Jan. 26, 1852.
"The Church is instituted, as every Catholic who understands his religion believes, to guard and defend the right of God against any and every enemy, at all times, in all places. She, therefore, does not, and cannnot accept, or in any degree favour liberty, in the Protestant sense of liberty." —Catholic World, April, 1870.
The Catholic Church is the medium and channel through which the will of God is expressed. While the State has rights, she has them only in virtue and by permission of the Superior Authority, and that authority can be expressed only through the Church." —Catholic World, July, 1870.
"Protestantism has not, and never can have, any right where Catholicity has triumphed. Therefore we lose the breath we expend in declaiming against bigotry and intolerance and in favour of religious liberty, or the right of any man to be of any religion as best pleases him." —Catholic Review, June, 1865.
"Religious liberty is merely endured until the opposite can be carried into effect without peril to the Catholic Church." —Right Rev. O'Connor, Bishop of Pittsburgh.
"The Catholic Church numbers one-third the American population; and if its membership shall increase for the next thirty years, as it has the thirty years past, in 1900 Rome will have a majority, and be bound to take this country and keep it. There is, ere long, to be a State religion in this country, and that State religion is to be the Roman Catholic.
"1st. The Roman Catholic is to wield his vote for the purpose of securing Catholic ascendency in this country.
"2nd. All legislation must be governed by the will of God, unerringly indicated by the Pope.
"3rd. Education must be controlled by Catholic authorities, and under education, the opinions of the individual, and the utterances of the press are included, and many opinions are to be forbidden by the secular arm, under the authority of the Church, even to war and bloodshed." —Father Hecker, Catholic World, July, 1870.

"It was proposed that all religious persuasions should be free and their worship publicly exercised. But we have rejected this article as contrary to the canons and councils of the Catholic Church." —Pope Pius VII, Encyclical, 1808.
Everyone knows that one of the first and most solemn acts of the present Pope, Leo XIII, was to order that the theology of St. Thomas Aquinas should be taught in all the colleges, seminaries, and universities of the Church of Rome, throughout the whole world, as the most accurate teaching of the doctrines of his Church. Well, on the 30th of December, 1880, I forced the Right Rev. Foley, Bishop of Chicago, to translate from Latin into English, before the Court of Kankakee, and to swear that the following law was among those promulgated by St. Thomas as one of the present and unchangeable laws of the Church of Rome:
"Though heretics must not be tolerated because they deserve it, we must bear with them, till, by a second admonition, they may be brought back to the faith of the Church. But those who, after a second admonition, remain obstinate in their errors, must not only be excommunicated, but they must be delivered to the secular power to be exterminated." —St. Thomas Aquinas, Summa Theologica, vol. iv, p. 90.
After the bishop had sworn that this was the true doctrine of the Church of Rome, expressed by St. Thomas, and taught in the colleges, seminaries, and universities of the Church of Rome, I forced him to declare, under oath, that he, and every priest of Rome, once a year, under pain of eternal damnation, is obliged to say, in the presence of God, in his Breviarum (his official prayer-book), that that doctrine was so good and holy, that every word of it has been inspired by the Holy Ghost to St. Thomas.
The same Bishop Foley was again forced by me, before the same Court of Kankakee, to translate from Latin into English, the following decree of the 4th council of Lateran, and to acknowledge under oath that it was as much the law of the Church of Rome today, as on the day it was passed in the year 1215.
"We excommunicate and anathematise every heresy that exalts itself against the holy orthodox and Catholic faith, condemning all heretics, by whatever name they may be known, for though their faces differ, they are tied together by their tails. Such as are condemned are to be delivered over to the existing secular powers to receive due punishment. If laymen, their goods must be confiscated. If priests, they shall be degraded from their respective orders, and their property applied to the church in which they officiated. Secular powers of all ranks and degrees are to be warned, induced, and, if necessary, compelled by ecclesiastical censure, to swear that they will exert themselves to the utmost in the defence of the faith, and extirpate all heretics denounced by the Church, who shall be found in their territories. And whenever any person shall assume government, whether it be spiritual or temporal, he shall be bound to abide by this decree.
"If any temporal lord, after having been admonished and required by the Church, shall neglect to clear his territory of heretical depravity, the Metropolitan and Bishop of the Province shall unite in excommunicating him. Should he remain contumacious a whole year, the fact shall be signified to the Supreme Pontiff, who will declare his vassals released from their allegiance from that time, and will bestow his territory on Catholics, to be occupied by them, on condition of exterminating the heretics and preserving the said territory in the faith."
"Catholics who shall assume the cross for the extermination of heretics, shall enjoy the same indulgence and be protected by the same privileges as are granted to those who go to the help of the Holy Land. We decree further, that all those who have dealings with heretics, and especially such as receive, defend, and encourage them, shall be excommunicated. He shall not be eligible to any public office. He shall not be admitted as a witness. He shall neither have the power to bequeath his property by will, nor succeed to any inheritance. He shall not bring any action against any person, but anyone can bring action against him. Should he be a judge, his decision shall have no force, nor shall any cause be brought before him. Should he be an advocate, he shall not be allowed to plead. Should he be a lawyer, no instruments made by him shall be held valid, but shall be condemned with their authors."
Cardinal Manning, speaking in the name of the Pope, said: "I acknowledge no civil power; I am the subject of no prince; and I claim more than this. I claim to be the supreme judge and director of the consciences of men. Of the peasants that till the fields, and of the prince that sits upon the throne; of the household that lives in the shade of privacy, and the legislator that makes laws for kingdoms. I am sole, last, supreme judge of what is right and wrong. Moreover we declare, affirm , define, and pronounce it to be necessary to salvation to every human creature, to be subject to the Roman Pontiff!!" (Tablet, Oct. 9, 1864).
"Undoubtedly it is the intention of the Pope to possess this country. In this intention he is aided by the Jesuits, and all the Catholic prelates and priests." (Brownson's Review, May, 1864).
"For our own part we take this opportunity to express our hearty delight at the suppression of the Protestant Chapel in Rome. This may be thought intolerant; but when, we ask, did we profess to be tolerant of Protestantism, or to favour the question that Protestantism ought to be tolerated? On the contrary, we hate Protestantism. We detest it with our whole heart and soul, and we pray our aversion for it may never decrease." —Pittsburg Catholic Visitor, July, 1848, (official journal of the Bishop).
"No good government can exist without religion, and there can be no religion without an inquisition, which is wisely designed for the promotion and protection of the true faith." —Boston Pilot, official journal of the Bishop.
"The Pope has the right to pronounce sentence of depositon against any sovereign when required by the good of the Spiritual Order." —Brownson's Review, 1849.
"The power of the Church exercised over sovereigns in the Middle Ages was not a usurpation, was not derived from the concessions of princes or the consent of the people, but was and is held by divine right, and whoso resists it, rebels against the King of kings and Lord of lords." —Brownson's Review, June, 1851.
The Council of Constance, held in 1414, declared: "That any person who has promised security to heretics shall not be obliged to keep his promise, by whatever he may be engaged.
"It is in consequence of that principle, that no faith must be kept in heretics, that John Huss was publicly burned on the scaffold, the 6th July, 1415, in the city of Constance, though he had a safe passport from the Emperor."
"Negroes have no rights which the white man is bound to respect." —Roman Catholic Chief Justice Tany, in his Dred-Scot Decision.
"If the liberties of the American people are ever destroyed, they will fall by the hands of the Catholic clergy." —Lafayette.
"The absurd and erroneous doctrines, or ravings, in defence of liberty of conscience, are a most pestilential error, a pest of all others to be dreaded in the State." —Encyclical Letters of Pope Pius IX, August 15, 1854.
"It is of faith that the Pope has the right of deposing heretical and rebel kings. Monarchs, so deposed by the Pope, are converted into notorious tyrants, and may be killed by the first who can reach them.
"If the public cause cannot meet with its defence in the death of a tyrant, it is lawful for the first who arrives to assassinate him." —Suarez, Defensio Fidei, book vi, c 4, Nos. 13, 14.
"See, sir, from this chamber, I govern, not only to Paris, but to China; not only to China, but to all the world, without any one knowing how I do it." —Tambriorini, General of the Jesuits.
"A man who has been excommunicated by the Pope, may be killed anywhere, as Escobar and Deaux teach, because the Pope has an indirect jurisdiction over the whole world, even in temporal things, as all the Catholics maintain, and as Suarez proves against the King of England." —Busembaum, Lacroix. Theologica Moralis, 1757.
The Roman Catholic historian of the Jesuits, Crétineaum Joly, in his vol. ii, page 435, approvingly says: "Father Guivard, writing about Henry IV, King of France, says: 'If he cannot be deposed, let us make war; and if we cannot make war, let him be killed.' "
The Roman Catholic theologian, Dens, puts to himself the question: "Are heretics justly punished with death? He answers: St. Thomas says, Yes! (ii 2 question 11, art. 3). Because forgers of money, or other disturbers of the State, are justly punished with death; therefore, all heretics who are forgers of faith and, as experience testifies, grievously disturb the State."
"This is confirmed, because God, in the Old Testament, ordered the false prophets to be slain, and in Deuteronomy it is decreed that if any one will act proudly, and will not obey the commands of the priests, let him be put to death.
"The same is proved from the condemnation of the 14th article of John Huss in the Council of Constance." —Dens, Theo. Mor. t. ii. art. 3).
"That we may, in all things, attain the truth. That we may not err in anything, we ought ever to hold, as a fixed principle, that what I see white, I believe to be black, if the superior authorities of the Church define it to be so."
"As for holy obedience, this virtue must be perfect in every point, in execution, in will, in intellect, doing which is enjoined with all celerity, spiritual joy, and perseverance; persuading ourselves that everything is just, suppressing every repugnant thought and judgment of one's own, in a certain obedience, should be moved and directed under Divine Providence, by his superior, just as if he were a corpse (Perinde acsi cadaver esset) which allows itself to be moved and led in every direction." —Ignatius Loyola, Spiritual Exercise.
"If the holy Church so requires, let us sacrifice our own opinions, our knowledge, our intelligence, the splendid dreams of our imagination and the sublime attainments of human understanding." —Pope Gregory XVI, Encyclical, Aug. 15th, 1832.
"No more cunning plot was ever devised against the intelligence, the freedom, the happiness, and virtue of mankind, than Romanism." —Gladstone, Letter to Aberdeen.
"The principal and most efficacious means of practising obedience due to superiors, and of rendering it meritorious before God, is to consider that, in obeying them we obey God Himself, and that by despising their commands, we despise the authority of the Divine Master.
"When, thus, a religious receives a precept from her prelate, superior, or confessor, she should immediately execute it, not only to please them, but principally to please God, whose will is known by their command.
"If, then, you receive a command from one who holds the place of God, you should observe it as if it came from God Himself. It may be added that there is more certainty of doing the will of God by obedience to our superiors than by obedience to Jesus Christ, should He appear in person and give His command.
"St. Philip used to say that the religious shall be most certain of not having to render an account of the actions performed through obedience, for these, the superiors only, who command them shall be accountable." —Saint Ligouri, The Nun Sanctified.
"Our business is to contrive: —1st. That the Catholics be imbued with hatred for the heretics, whoever they may be, and that this hatred shall constantly increase, and bind them closely to each other.
"2nd. That it be, nevertheless, dissembled, so as not to transpire until the day when it shall be appointed to break forth.
"3rd. That this secret hate be combined with great activity in endeavouring to detach the faithful from every government inimical to us, and employ them, when they shall form a detached body, to strike deadly blows at heresy." —Secret Plans of the Jesuits, revealed by Albate Leon, p. 127.
Henry IV, King of France, after being wounded by an assassin sent by the Jesuits, said: "I am compelled to do one of these two things: Either recall the Jesuits, free them from the infamy and disgrace with which they are covered, or to expel them in a more absolute manner, and prevent them from approaching either my person or my kingdom.
"But, then, we will drive them to despair and to the resolution of attempting my life again, which would render it so miserable to me, being always under the apprehension of being murdered, or poisoned. For these people have correspondence everywhere, and are so very skilful in disposing the minds of men to whatever they wish, that I think it would be better that I should be already dead." —Sully's Memoirs, tome ii, chap. iii.
"Let us bring all our skill to bear upon this part of our plan. Our chief concern must be to mould the people to our purposes. Doubtless, the first generation will not be wholly ours; but the second will nearly belong to us: and the third entirely." —The Secret Plan, page 127-128.
"The State is, therefore, only an inferior court, bound to receive the law from the superior court (the Church) and liable to have its decrees reversed on appeal." —Brownson's Essays, pages 282-284.
"The Jesuits are a military organization, not a religious order. Their chief is a general of an army, not the mere father abbot of a monastery. And the aim of this organization is—POWER. Power in its most despotic exercise. Absolute power, universal power, power to control the world by the volition of a single man. Jesuitism is the most absolute of despotisms; and at the same time the greatest and the most enormous of abuses." Memorial of the Captivity of Napoleon at St. Helena, by General Montholon, vol. ii, page 62.
"The General of the Jesuits insists on being master, sovereign over the sovereign. Wherever the Jesuits are admitted they will be masters, cost what it may. Their society is by nature dictatorial, and therefore, it is the irreconcilable enemy of all constituted authority. Every act, every crime, however atrocious, is a meritorious work, if committed for the interest of the Society of the Jesuits, or by the order of its General." —Memorial of the Captivity of Napoleon at St. Helena, vol. ii, page 174.
